Herpes is a viral infection viz. contagious. It is caused by Herpes Virus or Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). This virus is easily transmitted to other body with the exchange of body fluid or by the direct contact of the lesion. There are two types of Herpes namely, Herpes Simplex Virus-1 (HSV-1) & Herpes Simplex Virus-2 (HSV-2), based on the body part they target.

Herpes Simplex Virus

HSV-1 is commonly called oral herpes because it causes blisters and cold sores on the lips and mouth. HSV-2 is commonly called genital herpes because it causes blisters around the genital area or below the waist in both men and women. Herpes is so dangerous that it can cause brain damage.

Herpes could now be detected with the help of certain test for testing in Herpes Simplex Viruses. Radiological test is done to detect HSV-1. For testing HSV-2, we have – Herpes Viral Culture test, Herpes Virus Antigen Detection test, Polymerase Chain Reaction test (PCR), Antibody tests, etc.

Test of Herpes Simplex Virus with the help of Herpes viral culture test is the easiest way to test it if and only if the viruses are not dormant. In Herpes Virus Detection test, antigens are searched on the piece of sample collected from the infected area. Polymerase Chain Reaction test for herpes can differentiate between HSV-1 & HSV-2 by finding the genetic material of the virus. The Antibody Test finds the antibodies in the blood which can fight the herpes simplex virus. But it is successful only after two to three weeks of infection. But this test is not so accurate.

Since our body is our greatest treasure, we should take proper care of it by saving it from these kinds of diseases. Weakened immune system, excessive alcohol, excessive L-arginine in the diet, stress, fatigue, multiple sex partners, etc., adds to the risk of herpes. People need to pay attention to these things and then only they can live a healthy life.
